WIC Week

Women In Construction (WIC) Week

March 1 - 7, 2020

The focus of Women in Construction (WIC) Week is to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry. WIC Week also provides an occasion for NAWIC’s thousands of members across the country to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. It is also a time for local chapters to give back to their communities.

Girls in Construction Career Discovery Day - NAWIC Partners with DMACC Ankeny (Members-Only)

Monday, March 4, 2019

8:30 am – 2:30 pm

DMACC Ankeny Campus, Building 5, Student Center - Conference Room 1240, 2006 S. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa 50023

This event is open to the first 30 girls that register through DMACC that are in grades 9-12. It is an all-day event. NAWIC Greater Des Moines will be involved in the morning with a panel discussion about the various careers we hold in construction and will be taking them on a job site tour to Turner’s Facebook site. We will then have a Q&A session at lunch. DMACC will host the afternoon session, where the girls will be able to learn about the following programs at DMACC: Building Trades, Architectural Technologies, HVAC, and Civil Engineering Technologies Programs. This event is intended to cover all aspects of construction from design and engineering to construction. What we need from our members are Sponsors and Volunteers. We are asking for our member companies to ‘Sponsor a Girl(s)’ and provide PPE that the girls will be able to take home with them (hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses, and ear protection – PPE can have your company logo on it), along with $15 to cover the cost of lunch and transportation fees to the job site (as we will be renting a bus). We need volunteers to attend throughout the event. A SignUpGenius will be sent to sign up to be a mentor for a portion of the day.
