The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is a professional association comprised of women in construction and related industries. The national chapter was established in 1955 by 16 founding members. Today, almost 5,500 women in approximately 170 chapters across the United States are NAWIC members. You can become a chapter member by completing the online application, by attending a chapter meeting, or by requesting an application from the NAWIC office. Student memberships are open to female students enrolled in construction-related programs at institutions of higher education and vocational programs. NAWIC also offers memberships not affiliated with a local chapter. To find out more about the different types of memberships, visit www.nawic.org. A company can apply for one or more corporate chapter memberships or become a NAWIC Sponsor.
MIDWEST Region, Greater Des Moines Chapter 80:
The Greater Des Moines NAWIC Chapter celebrates its 60th Anniversary this year; July 2023! We are continually seeking ways to advance the causes of all women in construction, from trades women to business owners.
The Greater Des Moines Chapter has members from many of the major contractors and suppliers in this area. We encourage our members to gain business contacts and knowledge, develop personal skills and lasting friendships. Educational and entertaining speakers present programs at our monthly membership meetings. We tour job sites to give our members insight into current projects in the Des Moines area. Chapter 80 NAWIC provides scholarships for college students in construction fields through our annual golf outing and encourage construction creativity for youth with our "Block Kids Contest."
